Acne is one of those things that affects far more than your skin. Painful cysts, persistent breakouts and oily, congested skin can knock your confidence at any age, and it can be disheartening when one product after another does not seem to help. At Yuan Qi Acupuncture Center in Business Bay, we use acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine to support clearer skin and help ease the stress and hormonal symptoms that often sit behind breakouts, working alongside your skincare and any treatment from your doctor.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, breakouts are seen as outward signs of an inner imbalance, often described as excess heat or dampness affecting the Lung, Stomach and Liver systems. Rather than only treating the surface, a TCM approach looks at the whole picture, including stress, sleep, digestion and hormones, all of which can play a part in skin. Acupuncture aims to support the body's balance, which may help the skin look and feel calmer over time.

Acupuncture is used to support clearer skin by helping to calm the stress that can worsen breakouts, supporting circulation, and taking a whole-body view of the factors behind acne. By stimulating specific points, treatment aims to help the body feel more balanced and less reactive, which over a course of sessions may help with how the skin looks and feels. Because stress and hormones are such common contributors to breakouts, supporting that side is a key part of how treatment helps.
Many people notice their skin flares during stressful, run-down or hormonally changing times. By easing stress, supporting better sleep and taking a whole-body approach alongside good skincare, treatment aims to help with this wider picture rather than only the surface. Responses vary from person to person, and we are realistic that this is supportive care worked steadily over time, not an overnight fix or a guarantee of clear skin.

One honest note: if your acne is severe, painful or cystic, it can lead to scarring and is best seen by a doctor or dermatologist, as it often needs medical treatment. Acupuncture is supportive care that can work alongside that, helping with the stress and hormonal symptoms that contribute to breakouts, rather than a replacement for medical skincare.
For acne and skin problems we often complement acupuncture with gentle supporting therapies, guided by the assessment:
If your breakouts are linked to hormonal changes, we look at that as part of the wider picture and can take a joined-up view with our hormonal support. We keep the approach gentle and realistic, focused on supporting your skin and wellbeing alongside your skincare rather than promising a flawless complexion.

Skin problems are rarely just skin-deep. We regularly help alongside these related conditions.
Oily, congested or reactive-feeling skin.
Sleep trouble that can worsen skin and wellbeing.
The stress and low confidence that come with problem skin.
Your first visit begins with an unhurried consultation. We ask about your skin, how long you have had breakouts, what seems to trigger them, your stress, sleep, diet and cycle if relevant, and any treatment you are using. In keeping with Chinese medicine we usually check your tongue and pulse too. We then plan gentle, supportive treatment suited to you.
The needles are very fine, far thinner than the needles used for injections, and most people feel little more than a small pinch. Where facial points are used, we take particular care and avoid placing needles in actively inflamed or broken areas. You rest with the needles in place for around twenty to thirty minutes. Afterwards we explain what we found and suggest a realistic schedule, since support for skin works best steadily over a course.

We do not claim acupuncture removes scarring. Scarring usually needs specific medical or dermatological treatment. Our focus is supporting clearer skin and easing the factors behind active breakouts.
