Acupuncture for Hormonal Imbalance in Dubai

When your hormones are out of balance, you feel it across your whole body and mood. Irregular periods, mood swings, stubborn adult acne, low energy, poor sleep and a general sense of being not quite yourself can all point to hormonal changes, and they can be frustrating and hard to live with. At Yuan Qi Acupuncture Center in Business Bay, we use acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine to support your hormonal wellbeing and ease the symptoms that come with imbalance, working alongside your medical care.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, hormonal symptoms are understood as an imbalance of energy between the Liver, Spleen and Kidney systems, which are seen as governing blood production, emotional balance and reproductive vitality. When these are out of harmony, it can show up as the cycle, mood and energy changes that are so common. Acupuncture aims to support these systems and the smooth flow of Qi, helping the body feel more balanced and easing the symptoms you are experiencing.

Understanding the approach

How can acupuncture help with hormonal symptoms?

Acupuncture is used to help ease the symptoms that come with hormonal changes, such as cycle-related discomfort, mood swings, fatigue and poor sleep, as supportive care. By stimulating specific points, treatment aims to calm the nervous system, support circulation and help the body feel more balanced, which can ease how these symptoms feel day to day. Because stress so often makes hormonal symptoms worse, the calming effect of treatment is part of how it helps.

Many people find that as their sleep, stress and energy improve with a course of treatment, the hormonal ups and downs feel more manageable. We are realistic and honest about this: responses vary from person to person, and acupuncture works best as steady, supportive care alongside a healthy lifestyle and any medical treatment you are receiving, rather than as a quick fix.

It is worth being clear and honest: acupuncture supports your wellbeing and can help ease hormonal symptoms, but it does not replace medical investigation or treatment. Hormonal changes can have many causes, some of which need a doctor's assessment, so if your symptoms are significant or persistent, please see your doctor as well. We are always happy to provide supportive care alongside the medical advice you receive.

Where to start

Related conditions we treat on dedicated pages

Because hormonal health covers a lot of ground, we treat several specific areas on their own pages, where you will find more detail. If your main concern is one of these, those pages are the best place to start:

This page is the general starting point for hormonal symptoms and overall hormonal wellbeing. Whichever applies to you, we will assess your individual situation and guide you to the most suitable support.

The approach

A combined, supportive approach

For hormonal symptoms we often complement acupuncture with gentle supporting therapies, guided by the assessment:

  • Chinese herbal medicine, where suitable, prescribed after a proper assessment to support your wellbeing.
  • Treatment aimed at stress and sleep, since both strongly influence how hormonal symptoms feel.
  • Gentle warming or circulatory techniques such as moxibustion, where appropriate.

The aim is gentle, steady support for your overall balance rather than any dramatic claim. We keep our advice realistic and tailored to you, and we work alongside, never in place of, your medical care.

Your first visit

What to expect at your first visit

Your first visit begins with an unhurried consultation. We ask about your symptoms, your cycle if relevant, your mood, energy, sleep and stress, and your medical history, including any investigations or treatment you are having. In keeping with Chinese medicine we usually check your tongue and pulse too. We then plan supportive treatment suited to you and, where helpful, point you to the most relevant dedicated service.

The needles are very fine, far thinner than the needles used for injections, and most people feel little more than a small pinch. The session is generally very relaxing, and you rest with the needles in place for around twenty to thirty minutes. Afterwards we explain what we found and suggest a realistic schedule, since support for hormonal symptoms works best over a steady course, often across a few cycles.
