Acupuncture in Dubai

If you have been putting up with pain, broken sleep, or stress that never quite switches off, acupuncture is worth understanding properly before you book anything. At Yuan Qi Acupuncture Center in Business Bay, we have spent years treating patients from across Dubai who arrived sceptical and left booking their next session. This page explains what acupuncture actually does, what a visit with us looks like, and the conditions we see most often at the clinic.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest parts of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A practitioner places very fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body to prompt a response from your nervous system and improve circulation. In Chinese medicine the language is about the flow of Qi and blood through channels called meridians; in plain clinical terms, the needles encourage your body to release its own pain-relieving chemicals and calm an overactive stress response. Both descriptions point at the same thing, which is that the body is being nudged to heal rather than masked with medication.

Why choose us

Why people in Dubai come to us for acupuncture

Dubai is a high-pressure city. Long hours at a desk, heavy commutes on Sheikh Zayed Road, gym injuries, travel, and the kind of stress that follows you home all show up in the body eventually. Most of the people we treat are not chasing anything exotic. They want to sit at their desk without back pain, sleep through the night, or feel less wound up. Acupuncture suits that because it treats the root of the problem instead of switching off the symptom for a few hours.

Our clinic is led by Dr. Jun Huang, who holds a bachelor's and master's degree in acupuncture from Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University and has practised in the UAE since 2013. He is licensed by both the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH). Every treatment starts with a proper assessment, not a one-size template, which matters when you are trusting someone to put needles near a nerve or a healing injury.

Your session

What a session at Yuan Qi actually involves

First visits are mostly conversation. We ask about your main complaint, your medical history, your sleep, your stress, and anything else that helps build a picture. In Chinese medicine the tongue and pulse are part of that picture too, so we usually check both. Only then do the needles come out.

The needles themselves are about as thin as a strand of hair, nothing like the hollow needles used for injections. Most people are surprised by how little they feel. There can be a brief dull ache or a warm, heavy sensation when a point activates, and in Chinese medicine that response is actually a good sign. You then rest with the needles in place for roughly twenty to thirty minutes. A lot of patients drift off to sleep on the table, which tells you something about how relaxing it is.

Depending on what we are treating, we may combine acupuncture with cupping, moxibustion, or Tui Na massage in the same visit. These work well together and we will explain why before adding anything, so you always know what is happening and what it costs.

What we treat

Conditions we treat with acupuncture

Acupuncture is not a cure-all, and we will tell you honestly if we do not think it is the right fit. That said, these are the areas we work with most often at the clinic in Business Bay:

🦴

Pain & Musculoskeletal Problems

Back and neck pain, frozen shoulder, sciatica, arthritis, jaw pain, and sports injuries are some of the most common reasons people walk through our door. Acupuncture helps by easing muscle tension, calming the nerve signals driving the pain, and improving blood flow to the area so it can recover.

Stress, Sleep & Mood

Anxiety, low mood, and insomnia respond well because acupuncture works directly on the stress response. By shifting the body out of its fight-or-flight state, it lowers cortisol and helps the mind settle, which is often why sleep improves first.

Women's Health & Fertility

We support menstrual problems, PCOS, hormonal imbalance, and fertility, including patients going through IVF in Dubai who want to support their treatment naturally. Acupuncture can improve circulation to the reproductive organs and help regulate the cycle as part of a wider plan.

Digestive & Internal Health

Bloating, IBS, fatigue, and general low energy often trace back to how well the body is digesting and recovering. Acupuncture is used to support these systems alongside sensible changes to diet and routine.

What to expect

How many sessions will you need?

This is the question everyone asks, and the honest answer is that it depends. A recent, simple problem might settle in a handful of sessions. Something chronic that has built up over years usually needs a longer, steadier course. Most patients start with weekly sessions and we adjust as your body responds. After your first assessment, Dr. Jun will give you a realistic plan rather than an open-ended commitment.

Is acupuncture safe?

When it is done by a licensed practitioner using single-use sterile needles, acupuncture is very safe and side effects are minor, usually nothing more than slight bruising or a feeling of tiredness afterwards. Our clinic follows DHA standards, and every needle is sterile and disposed of after a single use. If you are pregnant, on blood thinners, or managing a specific condition, tell us beforehand so we can adapt the treatment to you.

Some people notice a change after the first one or two sessions, often better sleep or less tension. Longer-standing problems take more time. Dr. Jun will give you a realistic timeline after your first assessment at our Business Bay clinic.

It depends on the condition and how long you have had it. Recent issues may settle in a few sessions; chronic ones usually need a longer course. We start with weekly visits and adjust based on how you respond.

It can. Acupuncture helps shift the body out of its fight-or-flight state, which lowers stress hormones and helps the mind settle. Many patients say their sleep improves first.

Often, yes. Because acupuncture calms the nervous system, insomnia and restless sleep are conditions we treat regularly. Better sleep is one of the first changes patients tend to report.

Acupuncture is used to support fertility by improving circulation to the reproductive organs and helping regulate the menstrual cycle. We also support patients undergoing IVF in Dubai who want to complement their treatment.

Yes, many patients combine acupuncture with IVF or other fertility treatments. Let us know where you are in your cycle or treatment so we can plan your sessions around it.

Your first visit is mostly a consultation. We discuss your main complaint, medical history, sleep and stress, and usually check your tongue and pulse before any needles are used.

Plan for about 45 minutes to an hour for a first visit, including the consultation. The needles themselves are usually left in place for around 20 to 30 minutes while you rest.

Sometimes. Depending on what we are treating, we may add cupping, moxibustion, or Tui Na massage in the same session. We always explain why and what it costs before adding anything.

Eat something light beforehand so you are not on an empty stomach, wear loose comfortable clothing, and try to arrive a little early so you are relaxed rather than rushing in from traffic.

Side effects are usually minor. Some people notice slight bruising at a needle point or feel a little tired afterwards. These pass quickly. Tell us if you bruise easily or take blood thinners.

Acupuncture can be used during pregnancy, but certain points are avoided. Always tell us you are pregnant so we can adapt the treatment safely. We also offer prenatal support at the clinic.
