Back and neck pain are two of the most common reasons people come to us, and for good reason. Long hours at a desk, time in the car on Sheikh Zayed Road, poor posture, an old injury, or simply stress held in the shoulders all add up, and the body keeps the score. At Yuan Qi Acupuncture Center in Business Bay, we treat back and neck pain with acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine that works on the cause of the pain rather than just masking it for a few hours.
If you have been reaching for painkillers to get through the day, or putting up with a stiff neck that never quite loosens, it is worth understanding how acupuncture approaches this differently. The goal is not a temporary numbing of the area. It is to release the tension, calm the nerves involved, and restore proper movement so the pain has less reason to come back.

Most back and neck pain comes down to a mix of muscle strain, poor posture and inflammation, often built up over months or years. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pain is understood as a blockage in the flow of Qi and blood through the body. When that flow is obstructed in the back, shoulders or neck, the result is stiffness, aching or sharp pain. Western and Chinese explanations describe the same problem from two angles, and both point to the same fix: get things moving again.
Common triggers we see in Dubai patients include desk work and long screen hours, driving, lifting injuries from the gym, sleeping awkwardly, and stress that settles into the upper back and neck. Whatever the trigger, the assessment comes first, because back pain caused by posture is treated differently from pain caused by a disc problem or an old injury.

Acupuncture treats back and neck pain by stimulating specific points to release tight muscles, improve circulation to the area, and calm the nerve signals that drive the pain. As the muscles let go and blood flow improves, inflammation settles and the body's own pain-relieving chemicals are released. Many patients feel a noticeable difference within the first few sessions, often alongside a deep sense of relaxation during treatment itself.
For back and neck pain we often combine acupuncture with complementary therapies in the same session, depending on what the assessment shows:
Used together over a course of sessions, these do more than reduce pain in the moment. They help strengthen the muscles supporting the spine and neck, improve posture, and lower the chance of the pain returning, without building a dependence on medication.
Back and neck pain covers a wide range of specific problems. At the clinic we regularly treat these.
Pain from posture, strain or long hours sitting, across the lower and upper back.
Tension from desk and screen work that leaves the neck stiff and sore.
Disc-related pain that radiates down the leg, with nerve irritation eased at the source.
View treatment →Shoulder pain and restricted movement, often linked to neck and upper-back tension.
View treatment →Headaches that start in the neck and shoulders, relieved by releasing that tension.
View treatment →Reduced movement and lingering stiffness following an old or untreated injury.
Your first visit begins with a proper assessment. We ask about your pain, when it started, what makes it better or worse, your daily routine and posture, and your medical history. In keeping with Chinese medicine we usually check your tongue and pulse as well. This is what tells us whether your pain is muscular, postural, nerve-related or something else, and it shapes the treatment plan.
The needles themselves are very fine, far thinner than the needles used for injections, and most people feel little more than a small pinch or a dull, warm sensation as a point activates. You then rest with the needles in place for around twenty to thirty minutes. Many patients find this part so relaxing that they drift off to sleep on the table. Afterwards, we explain what we found and roughly how many sessions your condition is likely to need, so you are not left guessing.
A clinical practice run by a DHA & MOH licensed doctor — not a spa offering a quick fix.
*Many patients notice less tension and better movement within the first one to three sessions. Chronic pain takes longer to resolve fully.

Excellent care for sciatica that had been bothering me for months. The assessment was thorough, the treatment room is clean and comfortable, and I finally feel like I'm getting to the root of the problem instead of just masking it.

Yes. Neck pain and stiffness, especially from desk and screen work, respond well to acupuncture, which eases the muscle tension and restores movement in the neck and shoulders.
It depends on how long you have had the pain and what is causing it. Recent strain may settle in a few sessions; long-standing or disc-related pain usually needs a longer course. We give you a realistic plan after the first assessment.

Yes, both. Lower back pain from sitting, strain or posture, and upper back and shoulder tension from desk work, are among the most common cases we see.
Usually a mix of muscle strain, poor posture and inflammation built up over time, often from desk work, driving, gym injuries or stress held in the shoulders and neck.
A proper course of treatment aims to prevent that. Alongside relieving pain, acupuncture and complementary therapies help strengthen the supporting muscles and improve posture, lowering the chance of recurrence.
Often, yes. For back and neck pain we may add cupping, Tui Na massage or moxibustion in the same session, based on what your assessment shows. We explain why before adding anything.

Eat something light beforehand, wear loose comfortable clothing so we can reach the back and neck easily, and try to arrive a little early so you are relaxed rather than rushing in.

Yes. Many tension headaches start with tightness in the neck and shoulders. By releasing that tension, acupuncture can reduce both the neck pain and the headaches that come with it.
